VOICE for Animals is a 501(c)(3) all-volunteer, non-profit organization
based in San Antonio, Texas, whose function is to inform the public
about animal rights issues and advance the compassionate treatment of
non-human animals. Because of its respected role in the community, the
Houston Chronicle has described VOICE as "South Texas'
largest, premier animal rights group."
Since its inception in 1987, VOICE, through its volunteers, has succeeded
in effecting reforms such as:
—The
1990 U.S. Military Moratorium on shooting goats.
—1993
Amendments to San Antonio’s Animal Code requiring a cruelty
investigator, inspection of pet shops, and banning the sale of animals
at flea markets and along road sides.
—1995
Amendment to the Texas Penal Code forbidding horse tripping, after VOICE’s
exposure of tripping at charreadas.
—The
1997 San Antonio ordinance providing low-cost spay-neuter clinics.
—The
2006 "No-Kill" Resolution by the City of San Antonio with
a goal of phasing out euthanasia of adoptable animals.
Though
much has been accomplished, VOICE still has many goals yet to be realized.
The plight of non-human animals can be improved only through our continued
efforts. You can help make a difference by joining us and speaking
out against all forms of animal cruelty. Sign up for VOICE’s
email list to receive notice of events and become a VOICE for the
voiceless.
